An Arab family embrace

As a member of Collectiva Shamila, I felt that I embarked on a 10-month long journey with my new family. Through the Collectiva, I was introduced to a group of strong women and passionate and influential young people from across the Arab world. From my “new family” from the Arab world, I was fortunate to learn a lot, get to know their pain and what keeps them awake at night.

Sharq.org trained us in capacity building and the trainings had a great impact on me as I learned topics and skills that I had not been familiar with in the past. Collectiva Shamila became my family and each month I would look forward to our upcoming meetings. As a group, we produced the “Taboohat” platform, where we publish thoughts and advice on how women and women´s rights can be supported in the Arab world.

This thought and resource space explores both the impact of taboos that promote discrimination and the role of youths in promoting inclusion through incremental change.
