In light of the crises and instability Lebanon is currently going through, it´s as if we the Lebanese are sitting in the cinema and waiting for the movie to end in a way that we expect.
Following the collapse of Lebanon´s financial system and severe devaluation of the Lebanese lira, the country´s political class have acted as they usually do: prioritising their own private interests over the interests of Lebanon. As a result, Lebanon is now heading towards disintegration and collapse in my opinion. There will be more crime, an increase in suicide rates and more cases of human trafficking. I wonder where Lebanon will be in ten years time. Perhaps the worst is yet to come.
The situation in Lebanon is unpredictable but as long as the Lebanese people are standing by the sectarian system, the outcome will not be positive. Hence, a renaissance in Lebanon is far from attainable. Right now, there is no glimmer of hope in this country whose financial, health and economic sectors have collapsed. The educational sector is going down the drain. Students are being repressed systematically.
In sum, Lebanon´s compounded crises are multidimensional and the most serious challenge and threat to the country in its modern history. We the Lebanese are facing a double-edged sword. Either we turn to barbarism or social disintegration that will lead to the demise of Lebanon itself as a state. Or the crises that Lebanon is going through will help catalyse a revolution and a strong public force capable of pushing for change and demanding political representation.
Lastly, I believe immigrating abroad is not the solution to the problem. We live in a sectarian country and we the youth can´t leave Lebanon to the sectarian parties and their leaders.
