Participating in Collectiva Shamila with Sharq.org opened new horizons for me and provided me with an opportunity to get a better understanding of different countries and societies in the Arab world as the group included members from several countries in the region.
Attending our regular meetings expanded my horizons since we talked much about social taboos that are usually not talked about openly and instead covered up.
In our meetings, we addressed many topics that are considered taboo in Arab world and they were discussed in a civilised and open-minded manner. I also gained experience in content production and how you can address topics in various ways and techniques.
I participated in launching the “Taboohat” platform, which I hope will become an important web portal for addressing sensitive and difficult topics. I did go through some challenges on the way, such as not finding enough time and debating which topics I should focus on. The only thing I wish was that we could have had physical meetings instead of online.
Prior to participating in Collectiva Shamila, I had no real interest in speaking or writing about societal taboos or addressing them, not even by sharing my own opinion on them.
I look forward to cooperating with Sharq.org and Collectiva Shamila in the future.
